After our arrival we also began planting with great enthusiasm. The extreme dryness of the Sertão makes it difficult to find appropriate plants that can adapt to the climate conditions and yield a harvest.
At first we kept trying small plantings. We also had two cows which we had to sell again unfortunately because of lack of fodder during the dry season. In the meantime we have come to realize that only experienced gardeners or farmers can work successfully here and we hope that, in the near future, we will be able to find a bio-dynamic model project that can succeed in this area.
Since 2013 we have been offering room and land to the local technical school for a course in organic farming.
Since 2015 our pupils have been taught from time to time in organic farming by Jaque and his staff, members of the society of permaculture.
